The kindergartners were learning about farm animals this week in their classrooms, so we read a fun book called Book! Book! Book! by Deborah Bruss . In this book, some farm animals are sad when their children friends go back to school, so they try to find something fun to do. After we read this story, we sing a song very similar to Old MacDonald had a Farm. The children love to make the animal sounds and sing along.
First grade got to learn about the non fiction section of the learning commons this week. This is a new area for them to explore, as they stayed in the Everybody section last year. We talked about what a non fiction book is and then we read a great non fiction story called A Baby Elephant in the Wild by Caitlin O'Connell. We will spend the next few weeks really exploring and learning the differences in fiction and non fiction books.
The older kids have been getting some lessons with Destiny this week. This will allow them to use the learning commons in a much better way. There have also already been some students coming to the learning commons to access Edmodo with an iPad and use the maker space. And 5th grade self check in and out had been a great success. I can't wait to see how our space continues to evolve as the year goes on!
