We have had some great lessons in the Learning Commons lately! I am so proud to say it truly has become more of a Learning Commons this week. AS the grade levels are moving into informational writing, it has been a great time to work collaboratively with teachers. We have worked together to teach about researching and finding good information. We have utilized our Mackin Via groups. And best of all, small groups of students have been coming to the Learning Commons to do their research cooperatively. At any given time you can see groups on laptops, collecting information. Small groups working with their ESOL teachers, their tutors, or their Speech teachers. Students using iPads to complete projects and a variety of students at the desk top computers working on Skills Tutor or Raz Kids. Not to mention the many students looking for a great book to read! I have been all smiles all week long seeing this goal finally coming true!
To celebrate and learn about Veteran's Day, Kindergarten read Hero Mom and sang a song about thanking our veterans.
First grade is learning about Thomas Jefferson, so we read Worst of Friends. This story tells about the friendship and feud of Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. It was chock full of information about these founding fathers. After reading the story we completed a venn diagram of Jefferson and Adams.
