We have learned the best way to take care of our books. We have also created some library rules in the style of the Black Lagoon Series. For example: Use quiet voices OR ELSE your mouth will be stitched closed.
I have now had the chance to meet with every kindergarten, first grade and second grade class. I have also had many of the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes in for an orientation. It has been wonderful. I love seeing the differences in each class and how they respond to stories and activities in various ways. We have learned the best way to take care of our books. We have also created some library rules in the style of the Black Lagoon Series. For example: Use quiet voices OR ELSE your mouth will be stitched closed. Our new books have been flying off the shelves. It is so much fun to teach the students how to choose a "just right" book. One of our challenges is to help students find books that they are excited about and that their teachers are certain will help their reading ability. We encourage students to check out one book that is a "good fit" book and one free choice book. As the weeks go on, we will be learning more and more about finding a book that is a a "good fit."

It has been a fun and busy first week of school! The students are excited to start coming to the media center to check out books. Tomorrow we will be meeting with all the new to Dowell 3rd, 4th and 5th grade students. I can't wait to begin collaborating with teachers to create and teach some amazing lessons.
Here are some pictures of some of the things we have done to get the media center ready for customers! I almost cannot contain how excited and happy I am for this school year to start! Today, at our Meet and Greet, one of my students from last year came by the media center and said, "So you finally made your goal!" His simple words were perfect- I have reached my goal of my dream job! The media center has gotten a nice sprucing up and everyone loves it. The brightly colored walls have really made an impact. Now, comes the task of managing paperwork and instruction. As I work the next few days, getting a new book order on the shelf and preparing to meet with students for the first time as their guide into the wonderful world of reading for the shear joy of it, I am just like the new kindergartners we met this week. I am so excited, a touch overwhelmed and a maybe a tiny bit scared! |
Mrs. PszczolaI have wanted to be a teacher since I was in 2nd grade, but I have always loved visiting the library. After teaching for 11 years, it was time to follow my heart- straight to the library! I love books!! I read as often as I can, all kinds of books. One of my proudest accomplishments is raising four amazing, book loving children. Archives
